Prepare Properly for Your Interview

Over the years, recruiters and employers have witnessed some weird and extraordinary interview experiences and what follows are just a sample of the common mistakes that are made at interviews and you should take steps to avoid them.

Being unsuitably clothed:

Unless specifically instructed otherwise, always wear a smart suit.

Arriving late:

Punctuality is essential and it is advisable to arrive a few minutes earlier, just to establish the right impression.

Lack of confidence:

Pathetic eye contact and a weak handshake say a great deal about a person. Your confidence in your own suitability must be carried through the instant you enter the room.

Lying:

Never lie. Much of the information on a CV can be checked and although it may be your dream occupation, if you lie about your level of capability, it will be become instantly apparent once you start the job.

Appearing negative towards previous employers:

If asked why you left previous positions, always try to deliver a positive twist on this. If you run into a full assault of your old employer, the interview panel could be left enquiring whether you will exhibit the same attitude towards them.

Asking about benefits:

It is advisable to save the cash question until the second interview or offer phase. A first interview should be focussed on what you will do for them and you should be conveying the impression that is the challenge and company that is driving your determination to apply and not the remuneration.

Having no questions prepared:

You will undoubtedly be asked whether you possess any questions at the end of the medical interviews. Prepare these in advance and make sure that they present you in the optimum light. Focus on the post itself and your future position within the organisation and avoid issues such as holiday entitlement, company cars and whether they have a company canteen!
