Mount Blanc Doubles in Volume since 2003 as Reported by Glaciologists

Current precise GPS measurements conducted on the 14-15th Aug have demonstrated that Mont Blanc numbers 4810.5 metres. Mount-Blanc is covered by a heavy ice cap which has increased by 2.6 metres in not even two yrs furthermore more unexpectedly the mass of the ice and snow has all but grown twofold . Leastwise that’s as reported by the scientists.

The amount of ice was computed for the inaugural time during 2004. It worked out to be 14600 cubic meters higher than 4760 meters. It comprised merely 13800 cubic metres in 2002 maybe ascribable to the high temperatures with plus temperatures as high as 5000 meters elevation. However the icecap has all but increased twofold since then and today numbers 22000 metres cubed.

Chamonix’s illustrious local weather man Brian Zajicek stated the growth in the bulk of the ice-cap is one of the counter intuitive results of climate change: The amount of snow has not expanded overall in the Alps simply with the climate change we’re having a lot of hotter westerly air currents that bring rainfall at lower altitudes but in summer this means thick snowfall that falls above 3600 m height thus the amount of the ice-cap is rising. Contrast this to the situation in winter when snow crystals are extremely cold and are carried by wind so do not rest on the crest.

Chamonix Mont Blanc is not just famous for Mont-Blanc it is also a well renowned snowboarding area and climbing center with lot’s of ski deals and lodging deals to be found.
